About MZB
Mount Zion Bakery is a locally-owned bakery located in the heart of Downtown Munford. We are committed to providing high quality desserts, pastries and coffee in a uniquely crafted community space. We specialize in seasonal cake flavors sold by the slice or as a whole and prioritize utilizing the best ingredients and the least shortcuts in our baking processes. We are passionate about providing our community with a comfortable and moody space to lounge and connect over fresh baked goods and hot coffee. Whether you dig into cake by the slice, a gourmet cookie, freshly baked bread, or even a sophisticated french macaron - we strive to prove to each patron that a lot can happen over coffee and cake…
In October of 2024, half ownership stake of Mount Zion Bakery LLC was sold to Co-Owner Keri Meadors establishing her as sole owner of the bakery going forward. Operations will continue with little to no interruption or major changes.
We are a Nocturnal Bakery operating during the afternoon to late evening weekend hours. Our hours of operation were carefully chosen to offer something new and exciting to the downtown Munford scene, to meet the needs of customers outside of regular business hours and to complement our moody lounge aesthetic. Stop in between 2PM and 10PM on Friday-Sunday for a variety of occasions not limited to: afternoon pick-me-ups, after work coffee dates, and of course after dinner dessert. Come lose track of time with us at Mount Zion Bakery - night owls welcome here.
Our Team
Spencer Johnson
Founder
Spencer grew up in Munford, Tennessee and is happy to call Munford his hometown.
For the last 15 years, he has nurtured a God-given vision of creating a gathering place where people can enjoy coffee and life together. While returning from a mission trip in Italy ten years ago, his mother began to ask him about his plans for the future. It was in that moment that they approached downtown Munford and he took notice of the main "L" where all of the local businesses are nestled and immediately thought of his dream. Ever since that fateful moment Spencer has been waiting, praying, and preparing for this dream knowing that there was an ordained time and season when it would take place. After attending culinary school for a period, he realized that his specific skills would best be utilized by creating a coffeehouse (and eventual bakery) one day. That day has finally come!
While serving a straightforward but undeniably good cup of coffee is certainly a big deal and a large part of MZB’s ethos, Spencer’s ultimate goal is to create a place of community with the purpose of being a space for anyone and everyone to be welcomed with a seat at the table.
In October of 2024, Spencer decided that his work building the space he had envisioned for so many years had been completed. Following his heart and God’s will, he has stepped away from the business and no longer holds a hands-on role or ownership stake in MZB. We wish him well and thank him for his many contributions and sacrifices in making this dream a reality.
